Born in Olot, a village in the Catalan Pyrenees, Tomeo Vergés already showed an obvious need to express himself with his body at a young age. It was the era of twist and rock and roll, but despite his affinities with dance, it was the sport that won: he became a top-level swimmer. After graduating from high school, he chose to study medicine and went to Barcelona. There he continued to compete in sports, rubbed shoulders with the artistic circles of the Catalan capital and began taking his first classical dance and jazz lessons. Specializing in tropical medicine, he went to Cairo, India and Nepal.
It was in 1980 that Tomeo Vergés moved to France. During a jazz dance class, he met Maguy Marin, with whom he would transform into a Beckettian character in the now famous May B. His career as a performer is shared between choreographers: Marie-Christine Georghiu, Régine Chopinot, Anne-Marie Chopinot, Anne-Marie Reynaud, Anne-Marie Reynaud, Caroline Marcadé, Charles Cré-Ange and François Verret. He also worked for Carolyn Carlson and met Catarina Sagna with whom he signed his first duo. He continued his career as a choreographer with two soli, Heropas and Kronos y Kromos.
In 1992, Tomeo Vergés created his company, MAN DRAKE, and presented his first piece, Chair de Poule, at the Biennale de danse de Lyon. A dozen plays will follow, which will be filmed in France and abroad. The last three plays, which constitute a triptych around the decomposition of the movement, were created during residencies at the CDC-Atelier de Paris Carolyn Carlson, at Centre de Bords de Marne au Perreux-sur-Marne, at the Briqueterie-CDC du Val de Marne and Dôme Théâtre d’Albertville.
With his team, he invents with professionals or amateurs a whole series of off-stage performances that are part of “Performances et Cie”. In addition, as a teacher, Tomeo Vergés gives multiple workshops and workshops in France and abroad (Canada, Egypt, Spain, Turkey, South Korea...)
At the same time, Tomeo Vergés made forays into the theater with Sophie Loucachevsky, Jean Jourdheuil, Jean-François Peyret, Michel Deutsch or Benoît Bradel. Since 2011, he has collaborated regularly with the director Didier Ruiz, in particular for a whole series of works conducted with adolescents (in Paris, Avignon and Barcelona).
